About

Hello!  I am so happy that you found me!

Often anxiety, depression, being overwhelmed with life stressors, or unhappiness within our relationships or jobs can hold us back from being truly happy (or even just content). I can help you explore the areas of your life that you are struggling with and we can work together to find solutions to the discontent or unhappiness. I have always tried to be honest and true to who I am and believe that when people have the option to live more authentically, they can lead a happier and more fulfilled life. Like most people, I have struggled in many areas of my life but have found ways to either overcome the issues or manage them in ways that don’t interfere with everyday life.

Prior to becoming a licensed professional counselor, I spent 6 years as a licensed school counselor, and another 4 years as a teacher. In addition to parenting my own three children, my husband and I also cared for 26 children over a 6-year span as foster parents. Talk about stressful! I developed an eye twitch that didn’t go away for two years! I have learned that life never seems to go as planned but I feel that I usually end up right where I was meant to be.

I grew up in the Wausau area and then moved to UW-Oshkosh where I double majored in psychology and philosophy. After getting married, my husband and I moved to Chicago for graduate school. We lived and worked at North Park University which is also where I worked on my teacher certification and received a master's degree in education. After four years we moved back to Wisconsin and have been in the Madison area ever since.

Being an early childhood teacher was a lot of fun but I knew that it wasn't my ‘forever’ career. At the age of 35 I made the leap and went back to school for another master's degree so that I could be a school counselor. I love being a school counselor and will continue to do so part-time but also saw a great need in children who were struggling and needed more help than the school could provide. I also noticed a correlation with students who were struggling and parents who were struggling—some with parenting issues and some with everyday life stressors. Many would try to reach out for help but found that the wait to see a therapist was over two months! That’s too long, especially when people often don’t reach out until they are at or near their breaking point. I try to see new clients within a week of their first contact.

Currently, in my work life, I feel that I have the best of both worlds--I continue to work with my students at school and also work with students from other schools (and their parents) in my therapy practice whose needs aren't currently being met. I also LOVE working with adults who struggle in other areas such as anxiety or depression. These are areas that I can relate to and find much joy in helping someone focus on their strengths and inner resiliencies.

In my free time, I love to go hiking, kayaking, and read. A few years ago I also joined the backyard chicken movement and we range anywhere from 24-44 chickens (and two ducks, Pam & Jim)! We love knowing where at least some of our food comes from.
